The Far North

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most well-known natural attractions in Australia, if not the world. Made up of 3000 individual reefs and stretching for 2600 kilometres in tropical North Queensland, it encompasses such areas as Cape York and Cooktown.

Far North Queensland is an excellent holiday spot, due to its close proximity to the reef, as well as the other attractions the cities boast. A Cape York trip is usually based from a 4WD vehicle, which proves useful when tackling the rocky and sometimes un-touched terrain. It is one of the last great wilderness regions in Australia, and is about 1000 kilometres north of Cairns.

Cape York holidays aren’t complete without a spot of fishing. Take advantage of Cape York fishing charters and fishing safaris which are excellent services to help you enjoy fly-fishing or sport fishing.

Cape York fishing safaris are based in Bamaga Queensland which is a delightful community with beautiful pristine beaches. While it’s a small area, the accommodation in Bamaga is worth a look: Resort Bamaga is a four-star hotel offering affordable accommodation with excellent facilities.

The main attraction of Bamaga is its easy access to Thursday Island Australia. Thursday Island is another small community that is full of surprises. It has been populated for thousands of years by the Melanesian Torres Strait Islanders, and is rich in history and culture.

Whether you’re visiting just Cape York Australia, or travelling extensively up and down the coast, far North Queensland is a place of natural beauty, rich history, and a bit of fun too!
