Whitsundays
The cluster of 74 idyllic Great Barrier Reef islands, sparkling like ocean jewels off the coast of Queensland, Australia, is collectively known as the Whitsunday Islands.
While each island is unique in its own way, they typically have brilliant white sand, crystal clear cays and lagoons, tropical climates and stunning scenery. The colourful marine life and spectacular dive sites makes diving in the Whitsundays an extremely popular activity, along with game-fishing and sailing.
The Whitsunday region of Australia takes in Bowen to the north, Laguna to the south and inland to Proserpine and the fantastic Great Barrier Reef islands. Whitsunday sailing vacations are popular, with a number of private Whitsunday yacht charters available.
Australia’s Airlie Beach is the major town on the mainland. Access to the Whitsunday Islands is via boat or plane, with most visitors departing from Shute Harbour. Airlie Beach accommodation is plentiful, with hotels, apartments, resorts, backpacker hostels and camping sites. Choose from an apartment on the hill overlooking the bay or a waterfront hotel at Airlie Beach.
Lindeman Island and Long Island are mostly National Park and both have many walking tracks worth visiting. Accommodation here is very eco-friendly.
Meanwhile, Daydream Island, Brampton Island, South Molle Island, Hamilton Island and Hayman Island are well known for their exciting holiday resorts and activities. Some of the resorts offer great kids’ clubs and specials. Hook Island is perfect for those who love scuba diving and snorkelling.
For a memorable vacation on the Great Barrier Reef, book your Whitsunday charter boat and get ready for a holiday of a lifetime!
